Go for an Invigorating Winter Swim

Crooklets Beach Splash in Bude is an annual event, taking place every Christmas morning. With around 600 people this year expected to brave the elements, many people love to watch the madness from the surrounding cliffs. The (freezing) fun starts at 11am.  What a great way to start your Christmas day and earn your Christmas dinner. The participants will be raising money for the Surf Life Saving Club. I am trying to persuade Farmer Jez to take part this year. What are the chances?

Trip the Light Fantastic

There are many amazing light displays throughout the Cornwall. They are all great, but these two merit special attention.

The Christmas lights at Mousehole Harbour (pronounced Mowzel) were started by local artist Joan Gilchrist, and recently celebrated their fiftieth year. Down on the southern tip of Cornwall past Penzance this beautiful harbour attracts a crowd when the lights go on (12th December 2015). The harbour is shut to boats during the event, and watching the twinkling coloured lights reflect off the water is a it’s a truly magical experience.

Truro is also renowned for it’s midwinter lantern festival, when it is transformed into the “City of Lights”.  A carnival-like procession of amazing paper lanterns made to an annual theme (2015 being The Museum of Lost Stories), makes its way through the streets accompanied by music and dance. There is lots of warming local fayre on offer to fill you up as you take in this unique and bewitching experience.

Coastal Walks

We are lucky to be so near the North Cornwall section of the coastal path, including some of the best stretches in the UK. Get to a beach, and turn left or right, and start walking on the coastal path. You won’t regret it. Take your dog and explore the wildlife, views and amazing coastline. Good for the body and the mind, and a perfect antidote for any Christmas excesses!
