Indoor Activities that are great fun!
Top Six Indoor Adventures
Cornwall is officially sub-tropical and is considerably milder than the rest of Britain. Even so, it is sometimes good to know some fun alternative to the gorgeous beaches and outdoor pursuits. Here is the Coombe Farm Cottages top six:
1) – Climbing
You have 2 great choices here for an excellent day out.
The Barn is a dedicated climbing venue with taster sessions for beginners, and plenty for the more experienced. With the Lead Wall, the Boulder and the Top Rope Wall this venue has more than enough climbing options to keen everyone up and at it!
This is a bit more low key than the Barn, but looks like mega fun. The concept was originally developed in New Zealand, and allows you to clip onto a system so that you are totally safe and do not need a climbing partner. Suitable from aged 4-104 there are 13 climbing walls and 3 climbing challenges. Can you master the Leap of Faith, Stairway to Heaven and the Vertical Drop Slide?! Go on, give it a try!
2) – Indoor Fairground
Just down the road at Lifton you can step into history to experience all the fun of the fair. Boasting 45,000 square foot of indoor fun, tokens will allow you to ride the dodgems, carrousel, or play the coconut shy. It’s a great nostalgic day out for all ages, with exhibits from the days of the travelling circus, cafes, shops and friendly staff. The dodgems were the biggest laugh we’ve all had in ages!
3) – Museum
We recently discovered this awesome museum, the kids love it and we all learnt lots about the sea and ships. There is lots to see and do. Our kids loved the Survival Zone (we had to prise Will off the RNLI Jet ski) From the Mutiny on the Bounty; to local Cornish fisherman there is something for everyone. Definitely one of the best museums we’ve been to.
4) - Historic House
This is a fantastic and well-preserved example of a Victorian house. Explore the way of life for the Agar-Robartes family and also how their servants lived. See how food was prepared, stored and cooked in the extensive kitchens, and what dances might have been like in the great hall. Try on a Victorian outfit. There are always events on, and there is always something new to see.
5) - Aquarium
This is a lovely aquarium and is home to 40 naturally themed habitats. We all love it. It has creatures that live in Cornwall, through to much more exotic, colourful and dangerous fish. Check out the sharks, octopuses, turtles, coral and giant lobsters. Our favourite is the underwater tunnel that makes you feel you are with the animals in the ocean.
This amazing aquarium, celebrating it’s 20th year in 2018, has 4000 animals. Zones range from the Plymouth Sounds, through Ocean Drifters and the Atlantic, on to the Great Barrier Reef. Knowledgeable staff are on hand to enhance your experience. There is always something amazing about seeing these fantastic creatures in such imaginative surroundings.
6) Trampoline Park
The biggest trampoline park in the South West is always a popular option. 66 trampolines, a skywalk, 1.5m high platform with airbag, stunt zones, dodgeball court, and transverse lights there is plenty going on. There are full safely briefings and the facility is very well policed during the bouncing sessions. With café and restaurant, and free socks, what’s not to love?
Discounts to all these attractions are often available if tickets are bought online the day before.
