Bude & Stratton Folk Festival Bude (22nd May–25th May)

This friendly inclusive festival takes place annually on the late May bank holiday weekend at various venues in beautiful Bude and nearby Stratton, on the North Cornish coast. With an informal mix of internationally acclaimed folk artists and local school children, this event has something for everyone with song, dance, music, workshops and themed events taking place. Bude is a fantastic town, check out my blog post about all things Bude.

Launceston Steam and Vintage Rally (23rd-25th May 2015)

Watch the Arrows Barrows air display, ride tractors, donkeys or the miniature train, or all three! Listen to the live music all weekend, sample some ale (if you’re old enough!), check out the bygone vehicles and the dog show. Bounce on the bouncy castle and dare to ride the fairground rides.  With fire engines, military, entertainment and a big catering area sounds like heaven for a family day out …. especially little boys. 2015 marks the 33rd Launceston Steam and Vintage Rally, and will be held near Altarnun, (very near to Coombe Farm).

Royal Cornwall Show (4th-6th June 2015)

In May the question on everyone’s lips in Cornwall is “Goin’ show?” Nearly every local family goes to this event, every year, and often for all the days. The schools often have inset days during the event so the children can go on the weekdays. Team Coombe Farm was so impressed last year at the well managed traffic and parking and ease of getting around the event. Nevermind all the fun stuff there was to see and do, I don’t think we did a tenth of it! From flower tents, to prize winning farm animal, displays ranging from horse riding to motorcycles jumping over things in the arena(s) it is impossible to describe all that goes on. Oh, and there are lots of tractors. I cannot recommend this day event highly enough, and well definitely be going for a couple of days this year.

Charles Causley Literary Festival (12th-14th June 2015)

This festival remembers Launceston’s famous resident Charles Causley. Best friends with Ted Hughes and Siegfried Sasson this popular Cornish poet was loved by the poetry community. Literature, arts and culture are celebrated with readings, poetry, music, story-telling, theatre, a crime writing session and a script writing workshop. Probably a popular choice this year will be the Murder Mystery at the Museum Event based on the #Poldark novels. Don’t forget to visit the food market in the town square, or go on a guided walking tour of the town. Many events are free, just book a space.

Looe Food Festival (27th-28th June 2015)

This event is totally free! Come down and check out the local to professional chef demos, they’ll be producers, growers, and suppliers. Enjoy food to eat while you are there, food to take away, all types of drinks and recipes. Come and sample the best that Cornwall has to offer in terms of local, delicious fayre. Mine’s a pasty, some cheese and a cider please! I’ll have mine sitting looking out to see in the lovely harbour town of Looe, on Cornwall’s South Coast.
